It’s hit a new high. I see & hear & about 100 times the talk of self publishing books, and books on demand than even 6 months ago. (Later: checked out my hunch) And I buy self published books! Got the sample of this one, will buy it if I like it.

Kim Hill has a discussion with Kate De Goldie & Laura Kroetch on ebooks, (not much on self publishing though).

This is the topic of her new book, not yet out? There is a wealth of info here. It is worth listening to a couple of times and making notes, a few of mine follow:

Affairs create curiosity. Reframe the ‘detective’ as someone who is curious, and reframe questions about facts into questions about feelings.

Revision the future & it will create the future. Make the future explicit, concrete.

Attraction involves separateness

Forgiveness is part of it but a trap. Means the end of talking. Implies perpetrator.

Affairs involve sex, thus repair involves sex.

Affairs are not all bad. Crisis can help.

Monogamy agreements vary. A breach of the agreement is what is important, not simply the sex. Dishonesty is the worst

Internet has changed everything.

All affairs are different.

Affairs are not always the result of something wrong in the marriage, they can have their own unconscious purpose. Affairs can reactivate wounds, inorder to heal.

Yearning for growth

Trust is different to safety.

Imago Gottman in dialogue. This Audio begins with the Gottmans explaining their methods, it is followed by a discussion with all four of them.

I’m interested mainly in the relationship between the two modalities, on the way I noted Gottman’s research on emotions and children. He mentions that towards the end of the Gottman talk before the discussion.

I found the book on children:

Its pretty basic, details follow, but it was nicely put in the audio, so worth a listen.

Be aware of a child’s emotions
Recognize emotional expression as an opportunity for intimacy and teaching

Label emotions in words a child can understand
Help a child discover appropriate ways to solve a problem or deal with an upsetting situation

I listened to it and found it quite wonderful.

Harville places connectedness as a form of consciousness akin to or surpassing enlightenment. That is quite something. It makes sense to me as there is a resonance through the cosomos, things connect.

Very good to hear this interview today. It is incredible that a broad left perspective can be voiced so clearly but so little heeded. Listen to this interview, it is rare to get such crisp insight into world dynamics. It hard enough to understand the world, let alone when most of what we hear is designed to insulate us from insight. If people in New Zealand listened to these perspectives and engaged fully, even to challenge, then we would not be in Afganistan. No one wants a US empire and their assassinations, drones, war machine, and other antics of an empire in its death throws.

It is only a revolutionary socialist’s perspective that ever makes sense to me, but it is one that is largely invisible. Chomsky might be another speaker who has a world perspective worthy of discussion. The dominant media creates a climate where these voices are side-lined and certainly not discussed seriously. It is wonderful that this is in the public domain on New Zealand national Radio – I respect Kim Hill for at least listening without ridicule.

I’m enjoying reading The Devil’s Advocate. Now curious about its Australian Author. Storified Research. I like it. I was wondering how Christian West was, yes, but he is not a preacher.

And this time its all on my site! I could still go & update it there.

His works often were focused on international politics and the role of the Roman Catholic Church in international affairs. One of his most famous works, The Shoes of the Fisherman (1963), described the election and career of a Slavic Pope, 15 years before the historic election of Karol Wojtyła as Pope John Paul II.
