How I listen to podcasts.

  1. Find the RSS feed eg http://www.democracynow.org/democracynow.rss
  2. Subscribe in Google Reader. http://www.google.com/reader/view/#overview-page
  3. Have a filter in Google Reader to get all the podcasts subscriptions into a Podcast folder, easy to review!
  4. Slide *episodes* over into the Firefox Download Box (I have it configured to be in the sidebar) if I think I’ll like them, or will have time to listen.
  5. From the Download Folder slide all those mp3s into iTunes as music. Give them the My Podcast Genre (or similar). Make a smart playlist, and have that ticked to go to the iPhone upon a sync.
  6. Walk! Listen. Rate. Once they are rated they leave the Podcast playlist (that how I set up the smart playlist). I use one star meaning delete. Soft reboot to clear the list.

That’s my Podcast System. Cumbersome? Tell me a better way.

I get exactly what I want. They stay in the Playlist till I’m done & then they go.

I can’t get that control with the built in Podcast folder, or the iTunes subscription system.

I see I made a post about this system before, has some more details.

Here is my podcast list in Google Reader

iWishlist

I am looking forward to the Apple Tablet. The main thing I’d want to be able to do is to use it instead of my Toshiba M200 for sketching. I did a Thousand Sketches 2006-7 on the Toshiba M200 which has a Wacom style pen only touch screen. Worked well for me. It is pressure sensitive, and highly responsive. So I hope the Tablet will have something like a pen or better.

A long iWishlist follows.

This Blog Works on the iPhone again

I had a plugin that rendered this blog blank on the iphone. Switched to

WordPress PDA & iPhone 1.2.8

This plugin helps the users to view your blog in a pda and iPhone browser. By Imthiaz Rafiq.

& it works well.

The iPhone works OK with the WordPress default theme – no plugin – as well, but with this is marginally more usable.

Not so fast! The link directly to a post on Twitter leads to a poor rendition. You have to go directly to http://psyberspace.walterlogeman.com for the plugin to take effect!

There must be a better way!

iPhone Copy & Paste

If this is true it will make a big difference to my use of the phone.

  • Posting to blogs from iPhone
  • tweeting
  • Writing notes on tasks
  • Entering passwords, email address etc
  • I managed without, but only because many things work so well.

Last night I attended the Live Diggnation event in Austin, Texas at SXSW, where Kevin Rose confirmed through his sources that iPhone 3.0 would have Copy and Paste.

He said it worked like this… you would press and hold a word and a Magnifier type bubble would appear with quotes around the word. Move the quotes around what you want selected and then you can press Copy.

Here is how I am doing it right now, and loving it. Getting it all working took a while as I had to change everything with the advent of the iPhone. Everything I dreamed I could do on the Palm, in Mindmanager and on paper I now can do on the iPhone.

Details follow.
