Let me tell you

My phone shows a photo at random every day. This one came up, and I remember discarding it. Suddenly I like it. I imagine it printed on A1 paper, big, bold.

The date on the picture was 29 March 2017.  I made quite a few more on that date, this is the only one that grabs me… it wants to tell me something.

Image-9, now called Softly

2150 Softly. Walter Logeman Prints

I’ve been scouring my discs for artwork, my obsessive curating.  It’s got a soft quality, even though it’s a bold image. The brushes are soft,

Whats been hard is upscaling.

This image is not bad. I’ve been upscaling images and what a frustrating process that has been in the last few days. I got scammed by one online site.

Then I found a delightful program called Upscayl, which is open source. I’ve got it on GitHub. It works exactly what I wanted us to do, except that it smooths out the rough textures that I want sometimes.

So, back to Open Art, it does a beautiful job. Textures and the pixels all work, but it costs money. I’ve checked them, they come down with a watermark on them. That’s okay.

But then I go to put this image, Sofly up to see if it works with this image and it won’t load it up.  So that’s frustrating.

But the image is pretty good quality and I have upgraded it using Upscayl and that good on this occasion. So, learning.

And I’m subbed to Open Art, and the upload worked.  This print will look superb on A1!

Not Rothko

Not Rothko

A new sketch today. Called it Not Rothko because it’s inspired by  Rothko.  I love Mark Rothko. I’ve experienced some of his work live.

It seems like something you can do on the garage door with a roller.

But its not that easy. Even this one, I must have had 2 or 3 goes at it in different versions. Then this particular one has about 25 layers of rubbed out and reinserted versions. I play until I get something and then I stop.  I like it. So I’ve put it in the blog post because I want to write about my dilemma.

Is this the sort of sketch I could add to Walter Logeman Prints, Not Rothko?

I think people all over the world do imitations of Rothko’s, don’t they?

Across Brooklyn

Bill Manhire

This is the street where they still make coffins:
the little workshops, side by side.
I pass them with my daughter on our walk to the river.

Are we seeking the bridge itself,
or the famous, much-reported view?

A few planks and nails lie around
and each of the entrances seems to darken.
Far back, out of sight, someone is whistling.

Yes, I suppose we do walk a little faster.
There is a faint noise of hammering, too.

Got me thinking about New York. Here are some of my sketches from 2007
