Dr. Albert Ellis gave the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture in 1991 in New York City. It was all about the parallels between his Rational-Emotive Therapy (RET) and General Semantics. He stated, “I was distinctly influenced, when formulating and developing RET, by several of Korzybski’s ideas.” (General Semantics Bulletin #58, p. 25)

A very interesting Outline! This is by the same guy who I quoted earlier.

They suffer the tortures of the damned at the idea that a particular label may fit them or may not fit them. ‘Am I a man? Am I a coward? Am I a failure? Am I an invert? I just quoted Moreno on Korzybski, and they are both right. Language used in a certain way leads to inaction, and a false belief that we are not acting beings at all times.
The passage I found & that I have quoted below makes clear.
I know I have coached people to use EMA, English Minus Absolutism without rationally knowing why, or understanding the principle, I feel grateful and excited to discover this deeper principle. Also to see more clearly how it is related to Psychodrama and action.

I am still tracking the article in Sociometry mentioned in that earlier post. The Christchurch Psychodrama library has every volume bar 1946 1/2 !

How can such behaviour be explained in terms of neuroscience? We think that two people performing together in this way are best described as a single, complex system rather than as two systems interacting. We also believe the same kinds of description should be applied generally to the brain activity that occurs when two people interact, because their brains also become a single complex system.

Now don’t get me wrong. I don’t think for a second that Obama is a secret Republican or a secret Al Qaeda or Chinese operative, though I know that there are right-wing Tea Baggers out there who sincerely believe the latter two scenarios (often at the same time!). I think Obama is simply another slick politician with a giant ego and a shriveled sense of principle and ethics – a man that is, not unlike most of our political class, though with better diction and smile, whose interests include himself, his family, and those who bankroll him, but certainly not you, me and the country as a whole.

Archetypes of Cyberspace (pdf) HTML
Began this in the late 1990s and got it to this stage by 2003.
I have a Writing page – but it missed this essay, one of the ones I spent a few years on. I have now added it to the writing page.
It is a long essay, it was itself a journey, began just like the one I am on in the blog right now. I doubt it many people have read it. I could find no links to it. I just read it through and found it to my liking, though I would want to edit it all over the place!
Here is a quote from the conclusion, linking the theme of the essay to psychotherapy.
The link journey continues and, as some may have known, we meet Robert Anton Wilson on the way. A Korzybski prophet it would seem. Not as mad as he might appear. General Semantics has psychology spouting in all directions. And of interest to me is the whole question of the relationship of physics and psyche ( my article The Future of Knowing in a pdf.
