Stanislav Grof on Future Primitive

Personal Experience and Spiritual Quest « Future Primitive Podcasts:

Stanislav Grof, M.D., is a psychiatrist with over fifty years experience researching non-ordinary states of consciousness.

There are two things that I’ve appreciated about Grof that have made a real difference in the way I do psychotherapy. One is the importance of perinatal experience, traumatic and otherwis3. The other is Co-ex systems. Both come up in this interview, though the latter is not named specifically.

Psychodrama and Psychotherapy – Resources

This post is just for BOTH psychodrama and psychotherapy – see als Psychodrama – Resources and Psychotherapy – Resources. I’ll add more as I discover more.

A comparison of psychoanalytic and
psychodramatic theory from a
psychodramatist’s perspective
LARS TAUVON

abstract A comparison of Freud’s and Moreno’s theories with regard to their implications
for psychodrama therapy. Basic differences in the theories are discussed with special regard to
therapist role, transference and tele, insight and catharsis, the time concept, the body, and
developmental psychology. Other topics treated are concepts of drive or energy, psychic structure
and role theory, psychic determinism contra the doctrine of spontaneity-creativity and differences
between an intrapsychic and an interpersonal approach. An outline of the relationship of
psychodrama and its philosophy and practice to other schools of psychotherapy is given.

Raul Moncayo – Lacan

I’ve been listening to Dr Dave Shrink rap radio interview with Raul Moncayo.  I found the whole thing pleasant.  Yes, weird, but it was pleasant because it resonated with what is in my head a lot of the time, not the same content but the same questions  – the same discourse.

I also listened to the earlier Wise Counsel podcast, less pleasant but more stimulating.

Feelings & Needs

I am constantly using the following ideas in my work with couples. I’ve made these notes from a Marshall Rosenberg page, book or lecture on YouTube.
I’ve integrated this thinking and it is very helpful in generating lead-lines as I coach people.

Here

Language of life

NVC Non-Violent Communication, how to identify needs in self and others and how to speak without shaming, blaming and criticising is one of the four or five disciplines that I’d like everyone in the world to know how to do.

Language is important, but as Moreno said:

The analysis of language, useful as it is in itself. does not lead to any change in behavior. It has to be followed up by methods of action learning which train the pupil to think and act below and beyond the boundaries of language.

That’s why I think there are four or five disciplines, but none of them sufficient alone.

Outcome rating scales

Scales available here.

I am reluctant to even download them, let alone use them.

But I want the reference.

Performance Metrics | Scott D. Miller, Ph. D.:

Session Rating Scale 3.0 (SRS)
A simple, 4-item pencil and paper visual analog scale designed to assess key dimensions of effective therapeutic relationships.

The Outcome Rating Scale (ORS)
A simple, four-item visual analog scale designed to assess areas of life functioning known to change as a result of therapeutic intervention.

Outcome research

I came across Miller & Duncan in an audio by Rick & Sherry Stolp. (My post & links here)

This research makes more sense than most, as it is strongly practice based. The difference between modalities is not as relevant as the therapist, for example. Listening to your clients feedback is important and responding accordingly helps!
